“Maltese music days in Armenia” is a project that aims to present the musical culture of Malta
to art lovers of Armenia. The project will be held in Yerevan, on March 19-22 with the
assistance of the European Foundation for Support of Culture (President Konstantin
Ishkhanov) and the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.
Concerts of symphonic and chamber music will be held within the framework of Maltese
Music Days in Armenia. On March 19, Maltese violinist Carmine Laura will perform with the
Armenian State Symphony Orchestra at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall. The concert will be
conducted by Sergey Smbatyan and Ilya Stupel. The Grammy Award winner Ilya Stupel will
perform for the first time with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.
On March 21, Tchaikovsky Music School will host Maltese young talented pianist Bernice
Sammut Attard. On March 22, Maltese talented musician, a brilliant master of violin,
Professor Reggie Clews will perform with the Harmony Chamber Orchestra and conductor
The implementation of the project is based on the friendship between the Armenian and the
Maltese, that has more than 1000 years of history. There is an Armenian community in Malta
leading an active community life.
A year ago Armenian Culture Days were held in the capital of Malta, Valetta. On April 18-30,
different cultural events were organized, particularly 18 concerts were held, during which the
Armenian State Symphony Orchestra and the Maltese Philharmonic Orchestra performed.
The concerts were dedicated to the 115th anniversary of Aram Khachaturian, to Tigran
Mansuryan, Armenian, Italian, Maltese and other renowned composers. A joint concert was
held with the participation of winners of Eurovision Song Contest from Armenia and Malta,
beneficiaries of the Armenian Art and Culture Foundation together with talented Maltese
“Araks” Dance Ensemble from France presented the Armenian dances to the Maltese
audience. The films of Armenian directors were screened, including Artavazd Peleshyan's
"The Seasons", photo exhibition “Khachkars” by Zaven Sargsyan took place.
