Right after the Riga International Music Festival, Sergey Smbatyan headed to Europe to perform with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in the most mythical venues including Berliner Philharmonie, Muskiverein, Gasteig in Munich.
The musical journey combined pieces by contemporary composers and the classical legend Tchaikovsky (Symphony No.5).
During Riga International Music Festival, Sergey Smbatyan was performing with Guy Braunstein (the soloist) and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. The program included Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Serenade Melancolique, Valse-Scherzo, Pas de deux from “Swan Lake” Ballry, Lensky’s Aria and Letter Scene from “Eugene Onegin” Opera. The orchestra also played Alexey Shor’s Seascapes for Violin and Orchestra and Flight of Falcon for Violin and Orchestra.
The European Tour started from Malta with a concert at the Mediterranean Conference Hall, Valletta.
Soloists Nareh Arghamanyan and David Aaron Carpenter performed with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Sergey Smbatyan.
The European tour then continued to Philharmonie Gasteig, Munich, Liederhalle, Beethoven Saal, Stuttgart, Kurhaus, Wiesbaden (soloists - Ingolf Wunder, David Aaron Carpenter), Berliner Philharmonie, and lastly Musikverein, Vienna.
In their coverage of the tour, Panorama.am cited David Aaron Carpenter’s words, ''It is a great pleasure for me to play with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Sergey Smbatyan.''
In fact, the European tour was a great success: The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Sergey Smbatyan received a standing ovation at the Berliner Philharmonie.
