After the award ceremony Sergey Smbatyan noted that it was an honor for him and the orchestra to be in London and perform during this prestigious event. He noted that the Pan-Armenian Orchestra was created this year and performed on April 24, in Yerevan for the first time, under the direction of the other conductors. “We have great traditions of classical music in Armenia. You can see wonderful Armenian musicians everywhere. The idea was to unite them, so they can perform together”,-Sergey Smbatyan noted.
Maestro Smbatyan added that the musicians of the Pan-Armenian Orchestra are playing at the world’s leading orchestras. They were born and raised in Armenia, studied at the same Conservatory, thus they bear the same traditions and such projects show that the Armenians can be united.
By the way, the performance of the Pan-Armenian Orchestra within the framework of the Gramophone was the first international event, the orchestra participated in. Maestro Smbatyan noted that the conductors of the Pan-Armenian Orchestra are discussing on developing the idea of this united collective. Smbatyan hopes that the orchestra will perform more often. He also noted that this was an exceptional idea showing our unique traditions of classical music.
During the award ceremony compositions by classical and contemporary composers were presented. Sergey Smbatyan also presented Armenian music during the Gramophone. Famous connoisseurs of classical music listened to the ballets by Aram Khachaturian.
