On February 8 the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia performed under the direction of the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia Sergey Smbatyan. The concert was held at the Svetlanov Hall of the Moscow International Performing Arts Center.
The concert program included the symphonic poem «The Isle of the Dead», Op.29 and the Concerto No. 2 for piano and orchestra in C minor, Op.18 by Rachmaninoff, as well as the symphonic suite “Scheherazade”, Op. 35 by Rimsky-Korsakov. Soloist: Philip Kopachevsky (piano) – the winner of numerous international awards.
Note that the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia was founded in 2003, by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation on the special decision of Russian President V. Putin. The artistic director of the collective is the world-famous violinist and conductor Vladimir Spivakov.
It is noteworthy that in 2015 Sergey Smbatyan conducted also Vladimir Spivakov’s “Moscow Virtuosy” Chamber Orchestra.
